Alda's pups at 31 days old

  • These photos were taken on November 29, 2003.
  • Pups weigh about 3100 grams (6.8 lb.)
  • Pups are eating mush (really soggy puppy food).
  • Alda is eating 3 cups of food 4 times per day (used to be 3.5 cups 3 times per day)
  • Alda began separation from the pups when the pups were 28 days old. She is the kennel across the isle (6 ft away from them).
  • Alda is getting more energy back, the staff mentioned that she is starting to jump again.
  • Alda has a slight mastitis in one of her teats, about the size of the end of a little finger. They are treating with hot compresses and massage.

Cairo

Chuckie
Clarabelle

Coralee

Cynthia

They give them the same letter of the alphabet to keep track of the littermates. Alda's litter was given C because the litter before her was given B and the litter after Alda was given D. They skip letters of the alphabet that are hard to find names, like Q and X.

"After 3 weeks of age, the wading pool is taken away and they are put on the floor on shredded newspaper. At this time they start eating solid food and are slowly weaned. They are fed a high-quality dry puppy feed mixed with meat and vitamins three times each day. " (from Guide Dogs for the Blind)
