Thu, 10 Aug 2006 - Bev writes, "I watched Alda for about 90 minutes total (from the TV monitor in the kitchen). I think I now understand why she gets so exhausted. She was obsessing about wanting to lie down in an area of the pool which was free of newspapers. So, she'd carefully clear out this one little side of the pool, settle down in a comfortable position, then notice that one or more of her pups were missing. In all of her efforts, she'd managed to bury them under the newspaper and slowly, but surely, I'd see the newspaper start to move. Alda would get up, get out of the pool, nudge the pup over, then repeat the whole process. I watched this entire scenario about 3 times. It was actually kind of cute (and funny), but somewhat wearing on a new mom.'

Mon, 7 Aug 2006 - Alda is a mom again. She had 2 boys and 4 girls, half are black and half are yellow. The 6th pup born (yellow female) was put to sleep after about 12 hours. It was not able to keep its temperature, cried a lot, and Alda rejected it. All 3 solid signs that something was not right about the pup. She delivered 5 pups on August 7th and one on August 8th. Bev's birthday is on the 7th and mine on the 8th.

The remaining 5 pups are healthy and Alda is being a good mom. She is nesting them together near her teats and pottying them every couple of hours. They are weighed twice a day for a week to watch their progress.
